“Marais” is the Old French word for “swamp” but during our private walking tour, you’ll find out why this neighborhood is anything but! You’ll have plenty of time to ask questions and engage in dialogue with one of our certified guides, as they walk you through the history of one of Paris’s most popular districts.
You’ll gaze at the Church of Saint Paul Saint Louis, a study in Renaissance Era opulence, before moving onto the Hotel de Sully and the Musée Carnavalet, examples of the royal residences that once filled this district, and the Place des Vosges, a gorgeous public square. From here, you’ll fast forward to the 18th and 19th centuries, when the city’s Jewish community settled here, and walk past tempting bakeries and elegant shops on the rue des Francs Bourgeois. Your tour will end at the Hotel de Ville or the Pompidou Center, both architectural masterpieces from very different periods and both undeniable treasures of the one-of-a-kind Marais.
